Chef Rohit Tamang’s culinary journey began in Kavre, Nepal, where his connection with food slowly developed into a professional ambition. What started as interest and curiosity later became a career built through discipline, learning, and years of hands-on kitchen experience. Today, he is based in Dubai, UAE, and works as a Head Chef at Gurkha Spices Restaurant in Bur Dubai, where he continues to represent Nepali cuisine in an international hospitality environment.
With around 15 years of experience in the culinary field, Chef Rohit has worked across Nepal, India, and the United Arab Emirates. His professional foundation was built in Nepal, where he worked with Hotel Kaveri Inn and Kathmandu Guest House, gaining practical experience in kitchen operations, food preparation, taste consistency, and guest-focused service. These early years helped him understand the importance of teamwork, timing, hygiene, and maintaining quality even during pressure-filled service hours.
His journey later took him beyond Nepal, giving him exposure to wider food cultures and international restaurant operations. In Dubai, he worked at Ghantoot Star Restaurant, where he held the role of Head Chef from 2023 to 2025. During this period, his dedication and contribution were recognized when he was honored as Staff of the Month. That recognition reflected not only his cooking ability, but also his responsibility, leadership, and commitment to the team.

Chef Rohit has experience in Continental, Indian, Nepali, Italian, Asian cuisine, and fine-dining restaurant operations. However, his strongest passion and professional identity remain rooted in Nepali cuisine. For him, preparing Nepali food outside Nepal is both a responsibility and a challenge. In a multicultural market like Dubai, he believes it is important to present Nepali flavours in a way that respects tradition while also meeting international expectations of taste, presentation, hygiene, and consistency.
Throughout his career, Chef Rohit has continued to strengthen his skills through food safety training, cooking training, seminars, and professional workshops. His expertise includes kitchen management, leadership, menu development, recipe creation, food presentation, ingredient selection, food quality management, food cost control, and health and safety standards. These skills have helped him grow from a working chef into a kitchen leader capable of managing teams and delivering consistent dining experiences.

Working abroad has also deepened his sense of purpose. Chef Rohit believes that as a Nepalese chef, he is not only serving food—he is carrying Nepal’s culture, identity, and culinary pride to the world. He credits his family’s support as one of his greatest sources of strength, especially while working far from home in a demanding international environment. Their encouragement has helped him stay focused, resilient, and committed to moving forward.
For the new generation of Nepalese chefs, Chef Rohit’s message is clear: be proud of your roots, your culture, and your traditional food. He believes Nepali cuisine has the strength to find its place in the modern global dining scene if chefs present it with confidence, creativity, and professionalism. Through his work in Dubai, Chef Rohit Tamang continues to promote Nepali taste, proving that Nepal’s food culture can travel beyond borders and connect with people from around the world.
